Q: If I transfer to Corner Canyon can I participate in UHSAA sanctioned programs (i.e., Athletics)?

A: Yes, if you live within the CCHS boundaries you are eligible to participate and play.

The Canyons Board of Education has established rules that will govern athletic eligibility for students who live in the Corner Canyon High School boundaries or wish to attend Corner Canyon High in fall 2013. They are as follows:

  • Sophomores and juniors enrolled for the 2012-2013 school year at Alta, Brighton, Jordan or Hillcrest high schools and who live in the Corner Canyon High boundary at the time of the school’s opening are automatically enrolled at Corner Canyon. Their athletic eligibility transfers with them. While we encourage student athletes to declare their athletic-participation intentions for planning purposes — and to help them mentally prepare for the coming year at a new school — these students are not required to submit a CSD Declaration of Athletic Eligibility Intent Form.
  • Students who live in the Corner Canyon boundaries yet want to continue attending and playing athletics at their current school must submit both the Standard Open Enrollment Application and a Declaration of Athletic Eligibility Intent Form by Nov. 1, 2012.  The open-enrollment application goes to the school where the student wishes to attend. The athletic-declaration form is submitted to the CSD Office of School Accountability and Performance.
  • Current ninth-grade students who attend any Canyons District middle school during the 2012-2013 school year but live outside Corner Canyon High boundaries will be allowed to declare their intent to attend Corner Canyon by submitting the Standard Open Enrollment Application and the Declaration of Athletic Eligibility Form prior to Nov. 1, 2012.
  • Incoming freshman in 2013-2014 will be establishing athletic eligibility for the first time. Therefore, they will be subject to standard UHSAA rules.
  • Any Canyons District high school student living in the Corner Canyon boundaries who does not submit a Standard Open Enrollment Application and declare athletic eligibility at his or her current school by Nov. 1, 2012 will be eligible for athletics at Corner Canyon High School only.
