Test to Stay – Monday, February 8th

We have reached the 1% threshold of positive Covid-19 cases at Corner Canyon High School. As a result, we are implementing a Test to Stay program at CCHS to avoid another pivot to online learning. This post provides provides information about how this process will occur as well as how to register your student through the REDCap system.

Testing will take place on Monday, February 8th during 1st period. Students will be on an assembly schedule to accommodate testing all students. That schedule can be found here: https://cchs.canyonsdistrict.org/bell-schedule/

Here are the steps we will follow:

  1. Parents, with their student, will register and give consent to test on the state’s Redcap system. Scan the QR code below or click here to complete this process. test to stay qr code
  2. If your student has already registered with the Redcap system because they are an athlete who is already part of our testing program, you do not need to register again.
  3. Students will then be called down to the gym with their first period teacher. If the REDCap registration process has been completed, students will be given a rapid antigen test, administered by a medical professional. This medical professional will swab just inside each nostril. The swab takes less than one minute. This is NOT the PNR test that has the invasive procedure into the nasal cavity. Within one hour of the test, the result will be emailed to the email provided on the REDCap system.
  4. If you choose not to have your student tested, an assistant principal will work with that student to get in contact with you. Your student will need to learn remotely for the next ten days and will be able to return to school on Monday, February 22nd. You may also call the school and indicate that you do not want your child tested and that you intend to quarantine them at home until Monday, February 22nd. Until that time, your student cannot be involved in any school activities or be on school grounds. Have your student reach out to teachers to ensure they are getting the work they need to complete as a result of their quarantine. The absences will appear as a “quarantine” on Skyward, and teachers will allow students to make-up the work missed. If you have any questions about this, please contact your student’s counselor or assistant principal.
  5. If your student tests negative, they are allowed to remain at school and participate in all activities.
  6. If your student tests positive, you will receive the result via email, and an assistant principal will be contacting you. Your student will need to be taken home and will need to isolate. Your student will be able to return to school on Monday, February 22nd. Students who test positive are not allowed to attend school or participate in any school activities. Teachers will work with your student to ensure that work is provided through Canvas. The absences will appear as “excused” on Skyward, and teachers will allow students to make-up the work missed. If you have any questions about this, please contact your student’s counselor or assistant principal.
  7. If your student has been tested on or after Wednesday, February 3rd they should be in the REDCap system and will not be required to test.
  8. If your student has tested positive for Covid in the last 90 days, it will appear in our REDCap system and will tell us that your student is exempt from testing. Your student just needs to let us know when they check-in at the testing center. Once we verify they are exempt, they will be sent back to class.
  9. Please make sure you register your student on the REDCap system as soon as possible. This allows you to give consent for the testing and will speed up the testing process so that we can continue in-person learning at CCHS. The sooner you register your student, the sooner we can prepare all materials for testing to begin promptly at 8 a.m. on Monday.
  10. Additional Information:
    • Students in Seminary during 1st period will be called over to the school at 9 a.m. to test as part of the testing program.
    • Students enrolled in CTEC in the morning will be tested at 10:30 a.m.
    • Students who do not have a first period on their schedule will need to report to the gym at 9 a.m. to test on Monday.
    • If your student is absent on Monday, we will need to test them before they can attend classes. We will be identifying absent students and contacting them to determine a testing time so that they can return to in-person learning as soon as possible.
    • Children in the preschool ARE NOT required to test; however, any student aides that work with this programs will need to be tested.

We know that this is not an ideal situation to test an entire school; however, we feel that it is best to keep students learning in-person as this is when they have the greatest success. We feel this is a better option than pivoting to online instruction for ten days. Our case counts will reset to zero until Monday, February 22nd. After February 22nd, if we hit the 1% threshold for positive cases, we will need to test the school again. The good news is that once you register your student on the REDCap system, you will not have to do it again.

We have appreciated your patience and understanding all year, and we know that this creates some anxiety and concern, but we are here to help and to answer questions that you may have. Please direct any questions to the Main Office at 801-826-6400 or email your student’s Assistant Principal.
